In line with the increasing need for a standardised and clear approach to project management, the OpenPM² initiative provides an open and free Project Management Methodology, including guidelines and working templates. Its aim is to help setting a common language and a way of working across country and organisational boundaries and across public and private sectors, as well as to increase transparency and collaboration efficiency.

The PM² course provides a solid theoretical foundation and guidelines on the practical application of project management processes, tools and techniques.

This course is based on the official Certified PM² Foundation exam by the PM² Group, and meets the exact standards and requirements of the Centre of Excellence in PM² (CoEPM²) of the European Commission.

Goals

Following the completion of the PM² Foundation Course you should be able to:

  • make effective use of PM² for the management of projects;
  • understand the implementation of core project management processes and key project management tools and techniques;
  • effectively use the PM² artefacts for initiating, define the scope of a project and understand how to manage it;
  • understand key project planning tools and techniques;
  • understand project scheduling and estimating, including Gantt Charts and network diagrams;
  • understand project budgeting and cost management;
  • enhance your project management skills (reporting, communication and stakeholder management) and make you more effective in managing projects, particularly those involving EU funding.

The PM² Foundation certification is aimed at project managers and aspiring project managers. It is also relevant to other key staff involved in the design, development and delivery of projects, including project board members (e.g. senior responsible owners), team managers (e.g. product delivery managers), project assurance (e.g. business change analysts), project support (e.g. Project and Programme Office personnel), and operational line managers/staff.

Prerequisites

It is desirable, but not essential, that participants have some work-experience on projects. Some pre-read material is provided prior to the training and is expected to be fully read before attending the course.
